Ross Pelligra steps in to support the people of Catania hit by the storm that devastated Sicily’s coastline
The president of Catania FC has decided to donate the entire proceeds from Sunday’s home match against Cosenza at the Massimino Stadium to those who have lost their businesses and to families forced to leave their homes after being struck by the fury of the sea.
In a statement released by the club in the early afternoon, Ross Pelligra made a gesture destined to resonate widely for its immediacy and generosity. In a video shared by the club, Pelligra said:
“Unfortunately, we have received this terrible news about the devastation caused by severe weather in Sicily. It is heartbreaking — a tragic situation that has gone around the world. We are truly saddened, and our hearts are with all of you. We stand close to you.”
The Rossazzurri owner continued: “Over the past few days, watching what has happened, I thought that now is the time to be strong and to work together. As Catania FC and as the Pelligra family, we have decided that we want to help. For the home match against Cosenza, we will donate our matchday revenue to support people in difficulty and businesses that need to be rebuilt.”
The president’s appeal extends beyond the club’s immediate community, reaching out across the island: “I am asking for support not only from our wonderful Catania supporters, but also from the business community of Catania and from the wider Sicilian community, so that they step forward and help. This is the time to support our beautiful Sicily and make it a great place again.”
He concluded with a final, emphatic call: “So I ask — and I ask strongly — for the support of everyone.”
